Pushing Back Against Corporate "Counterfeit Science"

They funneled money through front groups, planted third-party articles and op-eds. They even hired a detective agency to investigate scientists on a federal advisory panel to try to stave off potential EPA regulation.

The documents also show that Syngenta targeted at least one scientist directly. Dr. Tyrone Hayes, a biologist at the University of California, Berkeley demonstrated a decade ago that atrazine could turn male frogs female, publishing his results in prestigious journals such as Nature and the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Hayes has remained a prominent, vocal critic of atrazine ever since.

In an effort to try to undermine Hayes’s research, Syngenta hired an investigator to dig up dirt on both Hayes and his wife, commissioned a psychological profile of him, and even planted trained critics in the audience at his speaking events.

We’ve seen this movie before—most recently in disinformation campaigns by oil and gas companies like ExxonMobil that try to undermine climate science and, before that, by Big Tobacco to disseminate disinformation about the health effects of smoking. Syngenta’s disinformation campaign about the safety of atrazine didn’t just draw directly from the playbook used by Big Carbon and Big Tobacco, however. They even used some of the same personnel. For instance, Syngenta hired Steven J. Milloy, a Fox News columnist and blogger, to spout misinformation about atrazine. In the past, Milloy has made similar arrangements with oil and gas companies to misinform about climate science; he previously worked for Phillip Morris, distorting the scientific evidence about the hazards of cigarettes and second-hand smoke.

Perhaps these latest revelations will build enough momentum to revisit this pernicious scourge and prosecute deliberate counterfeit science as fraud. Dr. Andrew Rosenberg, director of the Center for Science and Democracy at the Union of Concerned Scientists, is helping to put the issue of counterfeit science on the map. The Center for Science and Democracy is actively working to strengthen safeguards to ensure that solid, independent evidence informs our policymaking.

As Rosenberg rightly puts it, “Actions like those revealed in the Georgia Pacific and Syngenta cases go against all my teaching and experience as a scientist. They not only undermine the scientific enterprise, they pose an enormous potential threat to the public. That’s why we need all parties involved to develop and enforce safeguards to prevent counterfeit science.”

Dr. Wootan led the successful effort to require trans fat labeling on packaged foods, which significantly contributed to the 50% decline in trans fat consumption in the U.S. She led the effort to pass federal legislation to require calorie labeling in fast-food and other chain restaurants. Wootan coordinated efforts to pass the Healthy, Hunger-free Kids Act, including the law to set national nutrition standards for foods sold through vending machines, a la carte, school stores, and fundraisers at schools. She works on expanding nutrition and physical activity promotion and funding and reducing unhealthy food marketing aimed at children. Wootan developed and ran CSPI's award-winning 1% Or Less campaign, a community-based nutrition promotion program.

It was a challenge to single out only 12 overall winners, when all 50 regional winners have such impressive policies and practices for educating customers about GMOs and providing non-GMO alternatives. The “Diligent Dozen” winning stores are those grocers who are leading the natural food industry by working with manufacturers and local producers to transition to non-GMO ingredients and by advocating for GMO labeling.

Berkshire Organics Market & Deli, Dalton, MABerkshire Organics stocks roughly 3,000 mainly local and organic grocery items. The store requires signed affidavits verifying that manufactured product, ingredients, and feed used by livestock farmers are GMO-free. Store staff visit sustainable farms to verify acceptable farming practices.
Dad’s Organic Market, Saskatoon, SKDad’s Organic Market created a No GMO policy one year ago, and communicates that policy to manufacturers and vendors. Dad’s requires GMO-free statements on manufacturers’ letterhead before the store will purchase products containing suspect ingredients. Buyers always push manufacturers to remove GMO ingredients from their products.
Good Earth Natural Foods, Fairfax, CAGood Earth Natural Foods is a Non-GMO Project supporting retailer. The store donated $25,000 to Prop 37, the largest donation of any grocer in the country.
Jimbo’s…Naturally! San Diego, CAJimbo’s Naturally is one of the country’s pioneer GMO-Free grocer activists and organic advocates. The company has persuaded a number of manufacturers to remove suspect products from their foods, resulting in those companies either going organic or pursuing Non-GMO Project verification. Jimbo’s Naturally donated $10,000 to support Prop 37.
MOM’s Organic Market, Baltimore, MD & Washington, DCIn July 2012, MOM’s began informing suppliers that they would no longer accept foods with high-risk GMO ingredients, and that products with ingredients that may contain GMOs had to be either certified organic or Non-GMO Project verified. MOM’s contributed $10,000 to Prop 37, and $5,000 to Yes on 522.
Native Sun Natural Foods Market, Jacksonville, FLNative Sun has five staff members dedicated to product research, who meet regularly to review new products and analyze the ingredients for possible GMOs. Researchers discuss inert ingredients and their sources, and keep an updated handbook listing ingredients that are allowed and those that are banned.
Natural Grocery Company, El Cerrito & Berkeley, CAThe store established a policy about four years ago requiring buyers to inform manufacturers and vendors that they will purchase only organic products, except in cases where organic alternatives are not available. However, all non-organic products must be GMO-free and verified by the Non-GMO Project. The company donated over $3,200 to support Prop 37.
Nature’s Food Patch Market & Cafe, Clearwater, FLAll products suspected of containing GMO ingredients are labeled with GMO tags. In addition to product tags, Nature’s Food Patch educates consumers and alerts them to GMOs via email updates, Facebook and the store’s website. The store also provides non-GMO pamphlets and packets of GMO information for customers who ask about GMOs.
Ocean Beach People’s Organic Food Co-Op, San Diego, CAManufacturers are informed that all products purchased by the co-op need to be either organic or have an affidavit certifying that products are GMO-free. Products containing GMO ingredients are removed from the store. Products are either labeled organic, Non-GMO Project verified or have an affidavit certifying the product is GMO-free. Ocean Beach Peoples Organic Food Market donated $5,000 to support Prop 37, the California initiative to label GMOs.
Sundance Natural Foods, Eugene, ORSundance practices and promotes the ethos of ‘Gatekeeping,’ believing that we hold a moral and practical duty to educate our community about all issues surrounding the responsible production and sustenance of local, national and global food markets and agriculture, and to protect our food supply from those who would compromise and destroy it for profit.
Terra Organica, Bellingham, WATerra Organica is still refining its GMO tagging system. The store surveyed its customers about how to handle products that may contain GMOs, asking them which they preferred: No labels, label GMOs, or get rid of all GMO items. Customers overwhelmingly chose labels, which began appearing on Terra Organica’s shelves in March.
The Sunspot Natural Market, Kokomo, INThe store contacts manufacturers who claim that their products are GMO-free, but do not have non GMO Project verification. Strong relationships have been built with brokers, reps and manufacturers to make sure that GMO products do not enter their store. Thousands of homemade shelf talkers pointing out non-GMO verified products are on display throughout the store.

This is about as clear and easy to understand as it can be. The article below is completely neutral, neither anti-republican or democrat. Charlie Reese, a retired reporter for the Orlando Sentinel, has hit the nail directly on the head, defining clearly who it is that in the final analysis must assume responsibility for the judgments made that impact each one of us every day. It's a short but good read. Worth the time. Worth remembering!

545 vs. 300,000,000 People

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.

Have you ever wondered, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits?

Have you ever wondered, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes?

You and I don't propose a federal budget. The President does.

You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does.

You and I don't write the tax code, Congress does.

You and I don't set fiscal policy, Congress does.

You and I don't control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one President, and nine Supreme Court justices equates to 545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.

I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank.

I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a President to do one cotton-picking thing. I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine how he votes.

Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.

What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits. The President can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it.

The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House? John Boehner. He is the leader of the majority party. He and fellow House members, not the President, can approve any budget they want. If the President vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to. [The House has passes a budget but the Senate has not approved a budget in over three years. The President's proposed budgets have gotten almost unanimous rejections in the Senate in that time. ]

It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million cannot replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts -- of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can't think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.

If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair.

If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red.

If the Army & Marines are in Iraq and Afghanistan it's because they want them in Iraq and Afghanistan ...

If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it's because they want it that way.

There are no insoluble government problems.

Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power.
Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like "the economy," "inflation," or "politics" that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.

Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible. They, and they alone, have the power.

They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses. Provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees... We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess!

The Pituitary Gland

THE PITUITARY GLAND*

Wellllllllll, this newsletter has been a long time in coming as the
information in it solves a great many Physical Problems. Some of you
may be aware, that even several decades ago, the Pituitary Gland was
called "The Master Gland". Actually, this is the understatement of the century when it comes to Medical / Physical Body Knowledge.

The actuality of it is this. The Pituitary Gland is the command center or communication center of the entire Endocrine System. By "Endocrine System" , we're talking about all the glands that put out hormones, and enzymes into the blood stream and lymph system. We're talking about the Thyroid, Para-thyroid, the Adrenal Glands, etc, and also the Sex Glands which produce the Hormones necessary for the reproduction of Human Bodies.

Apparently, there are "triggers" ; or "switches" ; in the Pituitary that are connected to each and every gland, and when a particular trigger is harmed or is not functioning in some way, that gland connected to that trigger will NOT function at all. The proof of the pudding here is that when you take the time to fully straighten out the Pituitary, the exact trigger connected to the non-functioning gland will start working again, and then so will the gland itself. Quite miraculous!

A good example of this is shown by those who are attempting to lose
weight, are eating all the right foods, but can't drop a pound. The Medico approach is to put the person on Armor Thyroid Medication to stimulate the Thyroid and Para-thyroid into increasing the metabolism of the body. At first glance, there is the appearency that this approach works, but in the long run, what happens is that by supplying the body with synthetic or animal derived Thyroxine glandular secretion, the Thyroid Gland in the body stops producing the hormone altogether and starts to weaken and die.

The same thing happens when a woman is put on Progesterone Cream or other Progesterone supplements. The end result is that the person is on these Hormone Supplements for the rest of their life, the body stops producing hormones, and the organ itself ends up kicking the bucket.

The bottom line is, that with any glandular difficulty, one must also address the Pituitary' s glandular trigger to that gland as well, if one is looking for a permanent resolution to the problem.

There are many reasons why a certain Pituitary Switch might go out of whack. Some of these are: using Deodorants that contain Aluminum; Color Dying of one's hair using dyes that contain Toxins (an most of them do); getting Mercury fillings when one is getting a tooth filled; drinking water that contains Fluoride; Chemtrails; and eating foods that contain a high Mercury or other heavy metal content. There are other reasons, but these are the main ones.

This explains the continuing deterioration of the general health of our current population worldwide.

The solution is very simple: Detoxify the entire Body AND Brain at the same time, then fire up the Pituitary and turn on all of its switches.

[0026] Your brain is throbbing, you had a long week and are running late to work and just got a flat tire. You feel like someone is you pounding on your head with a sledge hammer. You might even experience the "white throbbing" sensation that accompanies migraine headaches. However, now conceive of the headache through this Method and recognize the unity of your own brain and body where they are only reacting to stimuli you have focused them on. When considering this Method in relationship to the immediate problem of the headache; you recognized that your consciousness is always in control of the mind and body, there is only one energy stream in your body=your own will power.

[0027] Now you choose to visualize this problem in a new way. You see this big white hammer pounding on the front of your head as a "picture." It is like a movie picture flashing on the wall of your head. Now you choose to focus on this picture throbbing on the wall of your head, and decide to redecorate this room. You see yourself walk across the inside of your head and grab that picture on the wall and through it out the window. Simultaneously you imagine the wadded up picture flying out your ear to land on the floor next to you.

[0028] Stop and notice now; your headache is gone. This simplistic example is perceived, understood and recognized instantly. Most people initially get a flash of "no headache" but then they are stunned and fall back into the familiar feeling of having no control and returning to their "headache." However, when accepting the conscious understanding of how everything is connected and related as defined by this Method; this simplistic insight and conscious exercise will end your headache. Seeing yourself in control allows yourself to take control. You are conscious of the energy moving through your nerves and brain and have decided to change the flow of your own energy. That fleeting moment you felt with "no headache" can simply be focused on and expanded. I almost never get headaches, and might get sick once a year. However, I simply remove this energy from my system and return to peace and comfort easily.

[0029] This is an improvement on the prior art of having no control over oneself and taking an aspirin, where mass media has programmed you to believe the drug will relieve your headache, while experiments have shown patients will respond and be relieved with just a sugar pill as well. This Placebo Effect is the unconscious version of this Method (Nordenberg, 2000).
