Another excuse for War in Ukraine

The Hidden Hands Behind East-West Tug of War in Ukraine | Common Dreams | Breaking News & Views for the Progressive Community: So when we read the headlines and grand rhetoric about Russian aggression and human rights abuses, we should remember that what is being fought for in Ukraine is the ability for western leaders and institutions to impose the neoliberal trickle-down economic model. A model that has proved to devastate small businesses and farms, fuel inequality all over the world and concentrate wealth and power in ever fewer hands.

The people of the Ukraine are paying a terrible price for their country's rich and fertile land. They are being ripped apart in a tug of war between two camps; neither of who have their best interests at heart. Welcome to the politics of the 21st century.

Re: [OSList] org'n works too good to use OST…?

My experience has been specifically with pumping up passions. . . groups will naturally morph to present themes.

A random improve technique is what I've seen most effective, even with the stale old boring folks.  It can start as simple as a Name-Game.  Everyone stands in a circle and states their first name spinning round the circle back to you.  "Let's do it again with one word names!"  With kids I would challenge them to see how fast they can do it, without interrupting each other.  This evolves from one-word, to single syllable nick-names.  Each time it came back to me I would do the circle again with another word, a passion, skill or immediate feeling.  Here's where you can really get everyone focused again.

If you really make it dynamic encouraging people to express, if gets kinda cool, especially with like a dozen people.  Like give me a passion that rhymes with your name, "Eric the Engineer," Donna the Dean, no rules of course, just spontaneous expressions. . .

The idea is to create Flow, strong and present.  Then you can direct it better.  So if your Hospital group is having trouble settling on new workgroups/plans . . .Give them something they can all chime in about . . . "this time give me one word, on Hospital Food" . . .  now ask others to suggest a theme for one-word responses. . .

If you have a really large group you can still do it easily.  "Everyone who had lunch from the vending machine last month stand up" . . . now create your circle again really quick by asking they state their names as you point . . . now do the same process as you point around the room. . . Too many people, not creating flow.  "now let's have mom's born in December stand up. . . "

What's kinda interesting for me doing these kinda things, is often people think it's child-games and it is.  So of course everyone gets into it playing like the child we all are. . . course it's also great to team-build, create community, inspire innovation . . . etc ;-)

here's another must see challenge on the same vibe:
Have a wonderful Day

Subject: [OSList] org'n works too good to use OST…?

Had a "funny" experience yesterday when I facilitated an OST with an organization that I mentioned about earlier, they have dived into OST and use the approach more and more in everyday life. Every August they have 1-2 days with all employees. Last year we had 2 full days (twice with half the staff each time) in OST resulting in a total of 23 action plans implemented by self managed workgroups. We have had follow up meetings reporting the progress from teams that now have dissolved or are still working. Their business (a hospital) now runs really smoothly, producing well over targets with energy and high spirit.

Out of different reasons the message for the first of this years conferences (one full day, next Friday is the next - for the other half of the staff) was a bit blurry (in my opinion/how I experience it) so the energy was not so high (setting agenda was really slooooow, didn't experience anything like that in the hundreds of events I have facilitated!) and some thought the day was a bit boring/slow. At the end most who were still there were happy(some left early - long day on Friday is not a good choice either)  - 9 action plans with concrete improvements! I used re-opening space, so it was all by invitation (-:

Anyhow, a challenge may be to find a really hot theme when business runs so good… I am now in communication with the leadership about how we can get the steam going better next Friday.
Any experiences to share, ideas and/or suggestions?
Warm regards
Thomas Herrmann

Her Family Stopped Eating Sugar for A Year

Her Family Stopped Eating Sugar for A Year, and This is What Happened | The Mind Unleashed: A Bright Idea

I took all of this newfound knowledge and formulated an idea. I wanted to see how hard it would be to have our family — me, my husband, and our two children (ages 6 and 11) — spend an entire year eating foods that contained no added sugar. We’d cut out anything with an added sweetener, be it table sugar, honey, molasses, maple syrup, agave or fruit juice. We also excluded anything made with fake sugar or sugar alcohols. Unless the sweetness was attached to its original source (e.g., a piece of fruit), we didn’t eat it.

Now that our year of no sugar is over, we’ll occasionally indulge, but
the way we eat it is very different. We appreciate sugar in drastically
smaller amounts, avoid it in everyday foods (that it shouldn’t be in in
the first place), and save dessert for truly special occasions. My body
seems to be thanking me for it. I don’t worry about running out of
energy. And when flu season comes around I somehow no longer feel the
urge to go and hide with my children under the bed. But if we do come
down with something, our bodies are better equipped to fight it. We get
sick less and get well faster. Much to my surprise, after our no-sugar
life, we all feel healthier and stronger. And that is nothing to sneeze
at.

How to tell if your olive oil is the real

How to tell if your olive oil is the real thing | Life and style | The Guardian:
Last month, the Olive Oil Times reported that two Spanish businessmen had been sentenced to two years in prison in Cordoba for selling hundreds of thousands of litres of supposedly extra virgin olive oil that was, in fact, a mixture of 70-80% sunflower oil and 20-30% olive.

In 2008, Italian police arrested over 60 people and closed more than 90 farms and processing plants across the south after uncovering substandard, non-Italian olive oil being passed off as Italian extra virgin, and chlorophyll and beta-carotene being added to sunflower and soybean oil with the same aim.

Most alarmingly, a study last year by researchers at the University of California, Davis and the Australian Oils Research Laboratory concluded that as much as 69% of imported European olive oil (and a far smaller proportion of native Californian) sold as extra virgin in the delicatessens and grocery stores on the US west coast wasn't what it claimed to be.

In Britain, of course, it wasn't so very long ago that the most likely place to find olive oil was the chemist. Today, thanks partly to the health claims made on its behalf and partly to the fact it tastes good, the oil Homer called "liquid gold" is in half of all UK homes and we get through 30m litres of olive oil every year – more than double than we did decade ago. We're now, in fact, the world's 10th biggest olive oil-consuming nation. So with a litre of supermarket extra virgin costing up to £4, and connoisseurs willing to pay 10 times that sum for a far smaller bottle of seasonal, first cold stone pressed, single estate, artisan-milled oil from Italy or Greece, can we be sure of getting what we're paying for?

On the right path | Letters | Times Higher Education

On the right path | Letters | Times Higher Education

Given USF’s vision of becoming a global research university, our ambitious 2009 strategic enrolment goals, and our recognition that we had neither the luxury of time nor sufficiency of expertise and resources to achieve them, seeking a proven partner committed to a long-term “insourcing” model guided by student success made best sense to enable USF to deliver on its global talent recruitment strategy.
This strategy is built around attracting the best and brightest intellectual talent (students and scholars) from around the world; expanding the global diversity of our student body to enhance the quality and relevance of our education; extending the global reach and international brand recognition of a young research university; aligning with US multinational companies’ desire to educate and train their future global workforce in the US; encouraging more USF students to explore and connect with the world, and facilitating educational and research partnerships with a small number of top universities.
Due in large part to USF’s joint venture with INTO, our total international student population has grown 20 per cent annually over the past two years – almost three times the US average of 7 per cent as reported by the Institute of International Education. The university currently enrols 2,648 international students from 140 countries.

Contact: Anna Gurney

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The City of Clearwater has opened a 27-acre equestrian park just south of Lake Chautauqua Park equipped with facilities to allow horse-owners and their horses a place to enjoy a ride through a nature preserve.

Lake Chautauqua Equestrian and Nature Preserve features parking spaces for horse trailers, a shaded pavilion with picnic benches, and even a self-watering trough. The land was acquired by the city in 2009 through a Florida Communities Trust grant in the city’s efforts to provide the community more natural park recreation opportunities. “Pinellas County is the most densely populated county in Florida. The City of Clearwater is committed to giving its citizens areas to enjoy natural ecosystems and biodiversity through land preservation. We have 110 parks in Clearwater, with 28 of them labeled nature preserves,” says Felicia Leonard of the City of Clearwater’s Parks & Recreation Department.
The project was funded through a $200,000 Recreational Trails Program grant by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Additional funding for the project came from Penny for Pinellas sale tax.

Lake Chautauqua Park is located at 2312 Landmark Drive, south of Enterprise Road in Clearwater. The park’s amenities include parking, trails and picnic areas. The park is open every day from dawn to dusk.

devices to detect GMO and toxic foods

endoRIOT: Consumers will soon have devices in their hands to detect GMO and toxic foods: run on-the-spot tests for environmental toxins, GMOs, pesticides, food safety and more

Consumers will soon have devices in their hands to detect GMO and toxic foods

Marco Torres,
Prevent Disease

In the not too distant future, consumers will be able to run on-the-spot
tests for environmental toxins, GMOs, pesticides, food safety and more
with their smartphones and other hand-held devices.

Every human being on every developed nation on Earth, whether living in a
rural or isolated area, in the middle of a large city, or near an
industrialized area, now contains at least 700 contaminants in their
body including pesticides, pthalates, benzenes, parabens, xylenes and
many other carcinogenic and endrocrine disrupting chemicals.

We are being bombarded on a daily basis by an astronomical level of
toxicity, all controlled by chemical terrorists on behalf of the food
industry. Morever, many of these toxins affect our fertility and those
of successive generations.

It’s time for people to know exactly what they are putting in their
bodies and technology is coming to the rescue. University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign researchers have developed a cradle and app that uses a
phone’s built-in camera and processing power as a biosensor to detect
toxins, proteins, bacteria, viruses and other molecules.

“We’re interested in biodetection that needs to be performed outside of
the laboratory,” said team leader Brian Cunningham, a professor of
electrical and computer engineering and of bioengineering at Illinois.
“Smartphones are making a big impact on our society — the way we get our
information, the way we communicate. And they have really powerful
computing capability and imaging. A lot of medical conditions might be
monitored very inexpensively and non-invasively using mobile platforms
like phones. They can detect molecular things, like pathogens, disease
biomarkers or DNA, things that are currently only done in big diagnostic
labs with lots of expense and large volumes of blood.”

“Modern biological research is also allowing an extension of laboratory
devices on to small computer chips to detect biological information
within DNA sequences,” said biotech specialist Dr. Marek Banaszewski.
“Bioinformatic algorithms within programs will aid the identification of
transgenes, promoters, and other functional elements of DNA, making
detection of genetically modified foods on-the-spot and real-time
without transportation to a laboratory.”

The wedge-shaped cradle created by Cunningham’s team contains a series
of optical components — lenses and filters — found in much larger and
more expensive laboratory devices. The cradle holds the phone’s camera
in alignment with the optical components.

At the heart of the biosensor is a photonic crystal. A photonic crystal
is like a mirror that only reflects one wavelength of light while the
rest of the spectrum passes through. When anything biological attaches
to the photonic crystal — such as protein, cells, pathogens or DNA — the
reflected color will shift from a shorter wavelength to a longer
wavelength.

The entire test takes only a few minutes; the app walks the user through
the process step by step. Although the cradle holds only about $200 of
optical components, it performs as accurately as a large $50,000
spectrophotometer in the laboratory. So now, the device is not only
portable, but also affordable for fieldwork in developing nations.

In a paper published in the journal Lab on a Chip, the team demonstrated
sensing of an immune system protein, but the slide could be primed for
any type of biological molecule or cell type. The researchers are
working to improve the manufacturing process for the iPhone cradle and
are working on a cradle for Android phones as well. They hope to begin
making the cradles available next year.

In addition, Cunningham’s team is working on biosensing tests that could
be performed in the field to detect toxins in harvested corn and
soybeans, and to detect pathogens in food and water.

Researchers at the Fraunhofer Research Institution for Modular Solid
State Technologies EMFT in Regensburg have also engineered an ingenius
solution to detecting toxins – a glove that recognizes if toxic
substances are present in the surrounding air.

The protective glove is equipped with custom-made sensor materials and
indicates the presence of toxic substances by changing colors. In this
regard, the scientists adapted the materials to the corresponding
analytes, and thus, the application. The color change — from colorless
(no toxic substance) to blue (toxic substance detected). The researchers
also envision other potential applications for the glove in the food
industry.

Other handheld devices currently in development are portable
chemiluminescence detectors, but based on enzyme-catalyzed reactions
emitting light. The detection devices for nucleic acids, biotin
associated with the target DNA provides the handle for the
chemiluminescent detection. The non-radioactive DNA detection chemistry
will be able to readily identify single-copy genes in transgenic plants
making them suitable for GMO detection.

"Operation Cure. All" Wages New Battle in Ongoing War Against Internet Health Fraud | Federal Trade Commission

"Operation Cure. All" Wages New Battle in Ongoing War Against Internet Health Fraud | Federal Trade Commission: "Operation Cure. All" Wages New Battle in Ongoing War Against Internet Health Fraud

atural Cures "They" Don't Want You To Know About. It is my contention that all illness and disease that you may be experiencing is caused primarily by three things:

You have too many toxins in your body. Your body is highly toxic. It is loaded with poisons and toxins that have been put in your body and that your body manufactures itself. These toxins get into your body from what you eat, breath, what goes in through your skin, what you see, and what you hear. They include not only food, water, and what you drink, but primarily the non-prescription and prescription drugs that you have been taking your entire life.

You have nutritional deficiencies. Every person in America is deficient in nutrients. It is impossible for a person today to get the proper amount of vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and nutrients from food they eat. Even if you were putting in the proper amounts of nutrients, your body is not capable of absorbing those nutrients because of all the toxins in your system. Nutritional deficiencies make your body unbalanced, suppress your immune system, and allow illness and disease to develop in the genetically weak areas of your body.

There are energetic frequencies that are negatively affecting you. This is much bigger than most people realize. Energetic frequencies bombard us everyday, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week and have a major adverse effect in our health. Energetic frequencies cause all your cells to resonate in ways that are un-natural, causing illness and disease. Negative thinking is a major, major cause of energetic imbalances in the body.
In my opinion and in my personal observations, I have seen virtually every type of illness and disease cured by doing the things I recommend in chapter 6 of my book! Whatever illness and disease you have, it can be eliminated by going back to the book and doing the things I recommend in chapter 6. The basic "cure" for all disease is simply three things:

1. Cleanse your body from the toxins. You must do this if you want to prevent disease. Most importantly, these toxins are probably causing many of your symptoms, including cancer, heart disease, arthritis, pain, asthma, allergies, etc. If you do a liver cleanse, a gall bladder cleanse, a Candida cleanse, a colon cleanse, and a full body fat cell cleanse, most of you in my opinion, will see your symptoms vanish and your disease or illness cured! I will be giving you detailed instructions on these cleanses on the website shortly.

2. You must start putting in the proper nutrients for your body to help it cure itself of the disease, illness and symptoms you have. This is vital. You can never permanently cure yourself of illness and disease and eliminate symptoms, if you don't have proper nutrients. You can never prevent disease from occurring if your body does not have proper nutrients. As I mentioned in my book, the best way to get proper nutrients is to eat as much raw organic fruits and vegetables as possible, and use a juice machine. Drinking two or more glasses of freshly made organic fruit and vegetable juice will start giving you the proper nutrients that you need and allow you to cure yourself of virtually all illnesses and disease. Every illness and disease requires certain nutrients for it to be cured. It is vital that you seek out a licensed health care practitioner who can recommend what nutrients you are most deficient in so that you can cure the disease you have. I also strongly endorse and recommend that you go to your health food store and start taking whole food supplements. I do not recommend as a general rule of thumb, individual synthetic vitamins and minerals, but rather supplements that are "concentrated food sources" that come in their natural state. Other good sources of super nutrition include Mangosteen, Noni, and Gogi juice. These are available at your health food store or on the internet and sold by various companies.

3. You need to correct the energetic imbalances that you have. Energetic imbalances can be quickly corrected. One of the first energetic rebalancing techniques developed was purportedly proven to cure cancer. It simply balanced out the energetic frequency imbalances in the body, and it is reported that cancer was cured. There are many health care practitioners and clinics that use various types of energetic frequency generating and rebalancing techniques.

If you do these things, I believe that virtually all of your symptoms will be reduced or eliminated in a very short period of time and your body will heal itself and cure itself of virtually all disease.

However it is vitally important for you to know that you must seek a licensed healthcare practitioner who specializes in alternative remedies. This way you can get personalized care and treatment.

Zinn Education Project

» About Zinn Education Project: Zinn Education Project

In late 2007, former Boston University journalism student William Holtzman watched You Can’t Be Neutral on a Moving Train,
the film about the life of historian, professor, and activist Howard
Zinn. It brought back memories of attending Professor Zinn’s remarkable
lectures at Boston University in the 1970s. He always marveled at how
Zinn’s “people’s history” was so much more alive and accurate than the
traditional history he received in high school.

After a successful career in technology, Holtzman wanted to bring
Zinn’s work to a new generation of students. So he called Howard Zinn.
“I contacted Howard and said I that I wanted to honor him and extend the
reach of his work,” said Holtzman. “Howard didn’t care about the
former, but was very open to the latter.”

Zinn
introduced him to two non-profit organizations, Rethinking Schools and
Teaching for Change. Each group has over 20 years of experience in
providing social justice resources and professional development for
pre-K-through-12 classroom teachers and teacher educators.

With the support of Holtzman and others, Rethinking Schools and
Teaching for Change partnered to launch the Zinn Education Project.

Some 30 years after his exposure to Howard Zinn’s “people’s history,”
the former Boston University student who initiated this project
demonstrates that classroom experience can have a lifelong impact.

Toxic Chemicals Linked to 'Global, Silent Pandemic' Striking Children Worldwide

Toxic Chemicals Linked to 'Global, Silent Pandemic' Striking Children Worldwide | Common Dreams:

"The presumption that new chemicals and technologies are safe until
proven otherwise is a fundamental problem," the authors write, adding,
"Voluntary controls seem to be of little value."

To confront this "global, silent pandemic," the authors urge an
international strategy that takes a precautionary approach to fully
evaluate new chemicals before they hit the markets. Testing on
industrial chemicals and pesticides already on the market should also
take place, they say.

"The problem is international in scope, and the solution must
therefore also be international," Grandjean stated. "We have the methods
in place to test industrial chemicals for harmful effects on children's
brain development—now is the time to make that testing mandatory."
